The Ellsworth Sportsmen’s Club spring trap league kicked off yesterday, but don’t worry if you missed it—you can still jump in. This league runs for six weeks, with 50 targets each day, so you’ll have plenty of chances to show off your aim (or lack thereof). And hey, if you have a week where you couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, no worries! You can toss out your two worst scores.
Shooting starts at 11:00 a.m. each Sunday with make-up rounds on Friday nights. From trap master Chris Link: “We just had the new lights installed, and they are awesome — hope to see you there!”
Get ready to meat your match at the ever-sizzling Steak Night at Hunting Hills Legacy! This Wednesday, they’re firing up the fun with sporting clays at 2:00 p.m. (because nothing says "appetizer" like a little friendly competition). If your sporting clays skills need brushed up, you can snag a lesson at Coal Ridge with none other than Marty Fischer. This guy's got more titles than a royal family reunion: world-class wing-shooter, nationally-acclaimed collegiate shooting coach, and outdoors writer extraordinaire. Plus, he's an NSCA level III certified instructor, which is just a fancy way of saying he can turn your aim from "oops, I missed" to "dusted it!" Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned pro, Marty’s got you covered.

What is trapshooting?
Trapshooting is a game of movement, action and timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break the 4-1/4 inch clay target which are launched through the air from a single machine simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.

What is sporting clays?
Sporting clays courses are designed to simulate the hunting of ducks, pheasants, other upland birds, and even rabbits. Targets may be thrown from literally any angle or distance to simulate wingshooting, and six different sizes of clay targets are used to further give the shooter the experience of actual hunting conditions.
