The Breaking Clay staff attended the Brooke/Hancock County (WV) Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit benefit shoot at Coal Ridge Sporting Clays on Saturday, and not only did Nathan and the crew host another well-run event on a fun and challenging course, but we also got to demo SCORE EDGE real-time electronic scoring. That’s right, we ditched the old pencil and clipboard for a tablet and felt like we were finally in the 21st century. SCORE EDGE founder Enzo Di Giovanni was in attendance and set up every team with a preloaded tablet, so teams simply carried their tablet throughout the course, tapping hits and misses on the touchscreen. A few teams experienced minor glitches, but ours worked flawlessly and made scoring a cinch. According to the SCORE EDGE website, the app supports electronic scoring across all shooting disciplines (trap, skeet, and more) and includes a mobile app so shooters can score on their phones. What is trapshooting?
Trapshooting is a game of movement, action and timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break the 4-1/4 inch clay target which are launched through the air from a single machine simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.

What is sporting clays?
Sporting clays courses are designed to simulate the hunting of ducks, pheasants, other upland birds, and even rabbits. Targets may be thrown from literally any angle or distance to simulate wingshooting, and six different sizes of clay targets are used to further give the shooter the experience of actual hunting conditions.
