Shamrock Sporting Clays 5-stand
Blue skies. Sporting clays. Cigars. Whiskey. And the best new restaurant in the Pittsburgh area. Sounds too good to be true… until you actually go.
This past weekend the Breaking Clay crew made the easy hour-and-a-half drive east from Washington County to Shamrock Sporting Clays in Rockwood, PA—and walked away completely spoiled.
The 18-station course was pure fun and a real challenge, set on grounds so meticulously kept it almost felt unfair. Immaculate facility. Perfect conditions. Exactly the kind of place that makes you want to come back the next weekend.
Then the real surprise hit. After the round we headed to their Whiskey & Cigar Bar—just voted Best New Restaurant by the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association (PR&LA) for 2026. The French Dip and tallow fries was outstanding, the service was on another level, and once we finished they lit a fire for us so we could settle in with a drink and a cigar under those same blue skies.
If you’re looking for a new place to break some clays (and then linger way longer than you planned), put Shamrock Sporting Clays at the top of the list. You will not be disappointed.

What is trapshooting?
Trapshooting is a game of movement, action and timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break the 4-1/4 inch clay target which are launched through the air from a single machine simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.

What is sporting clays?
Sporting clays courses are designed to simulate the hunting of ducks, pheasants, other upland birds, and even rabbits. Targets may be thrown from literally any angle or distance to simulate wingshooting, and six different sizes of clay targets are used to further give the shooter the experience of actual hunting conditions.
