Fun fact: Trap shooting started with live birds! Trap shooting originated in 18th-century England (around the 1750s–1790s) using live pigeons released from cages or "traps" — hence the name. As animal welfare concerns grew, live birds were phased out. Glass balls (sometimes filled with feathers) and then clay targets replaced them in the late 1800s.
Get ready to sink your teeth into the first Burger Blast of the season, kicking off this Thursday at Coal Ridge and continuing every week until the sun decides to take a vacation.

What is trapshooting?
Trapshooting is a game of movement, action and timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break the 4-1/4 inch clay target which are launched through the air from a single machine simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.

What is sporting clays?
Sporting clays courses are designed to simulate the hunting of ducks, pheasants, other upland birds, and even rabbits. Targets may be thrown from literally any angle or distance to simulate wingshooting, and six different sizes of clay targets are used to further give the shooter the experience of actual hunting conditions.
